She… was a widow for eighty-four years. She did not leave the temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayers. Luke 2:36b–37 (CSB)
Anna — along with Simon — were among the first people to recognize and give thanks for the birth of the Messiah.
Throughout Scripture, we see widows used to teach, receive the blessings of the Lord and his people, and be a conduit for blessing. God is near to the heart of the widow.
Can you imagine the power of thousands of godly widows praying on behalf of the needs of our Southern Baptist Convention?
That’s what The Widows’ Might is all about.
Sponsored by GuideStone®, The Widows’ Might is a powerful prayer ministry established decades ago by Susie and O.S. Hawkins that is committed to:
Perhaps more than at any time in our history, Southern Baptists need the prayers of people like you. An army of widows, giving thanks to the Lord and bringing prayers and petitions before Him (Philippians 4:6).
Why widows? Luke 21:1-4 tells of the widow who gave two mites to the Lord’s work. Jesus, watching all who gave, praised her. While others gave “out of their surplus… she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.” Proportionally, her offering was far greater than the offerings of those of much higher standing.
Any widow or widower. Like the Lord himself, we know the trials and hardships you endure. Yet God knows what a powerful force widows are as a collective. It is the Widows’ Might to join together as a prayer ministry for the needs of our SBC.
